2011
2011 was a fun year for us.
In January...well it appears nothing of note occurred in January. Big shock as it is the worst.month.ever.
In February we had the great blizzard of 2011.
In March we went to Mexico.
In April went to Kansas City.
In May Avery turned 2 and Rob completed his MBA.
In June we welcomed summer and had lots of fun in the sun and we celebrated Dad.
In July we went to Tiki Island with good friends.
In August Avery started pre-school and we installed new floors.
In September we kicked off football season with friends and enjoyed the last days of summer.
In October Avery went to the fair for the first time and Halloween was celebrated several times over.
In November we kicked of the holiday season with Thanksgiving.
In December we met Santa and had a wonderful Christmas.
Avery has changed so much over the last year (as I'm sure she will every year until, like, forever). She has become such a big girl. Her vocabulary surprises me on the regular. She knows shapes, colors, and can count to about 20 (things get hazy around 14). She likes to joke (is that FUNNY Mama?). She likes to read and do puzzles. She's very sweet, shy, and a little sensitive. She loves Dora and Minnie. She is quasi-potty trained.
We can't wait to see what 2012 has in store for our family.

Post Christmas Vacation
Staycation, really.
I took the week after Christmas off to use the rest of my vacation time. We had such a great week. The weather was unseasonably warm and we had a nice balance between relaxation and activity. Rob was home the Monday following Christmas and the Monday following New Year's, otherwise he worked. He doesn't have to use his vacation by the end of the year like I do, so he's saving it for events this coming year.
I'll let the iPhone pictures tell the story.
This week has been hard to get through without my afternoon nap. Avery was ready to get back to school. Rob said she danced into her room Tuesday morning. I can't say that I danced into my office, but I'm getting used to reality again.

Christmas Morning
Like I mentioned in the previous post, we put some candy canes and carrots out for Santa and his reindeer.
Hopefully next we'll have real cookies. Anyway. Christmas morning Avery came into our room and said "the candy canes are gone and the carrots are BWOKEN!" She had also noticed her stocking on the way into our room. We don't have a fireplace so the stockings are hanging on the bookcase (Santa left the Goldfish for me but they were too big to put in my stocking).

Christmas 2011
Christmas just gets better every year. We had so much fun this year. Avery is really at a fun stage. She's too young to really get it. Too young to make a long Christmas list or anything like that. She asked for one thing this year, a flashlight, and we even sort of planted that idea (maybe Santa will bring you a flashlight) since she loves Rob's huge Maglites.
We celebrated Christmas Eve at Gigi and Pepaw's. We had a great evening eating and exchanging gifts.
We got home that night just in time to set out some candy canes for Santa (no time to make cookies) and carrots for the reindeer. The first thing she said when she came into our room Christmas morning was "the candy canes are gone and the carrots are BWOKEN!"
After opening our gifts we got dressed and headed to Mimi's for brunch.
Afterwards we went home and relaxed in a sea of wrapping paper and new toys. Avery is such a lucky girl. She has so many people that love her so much and shower her with love, affection, and gifts. We certainly enjoyed spending time with family seeing Avery enjoy herself. We couldn't have had a better Christmas.

Santa
A couple days before Christmas we found ourselves waiting in line to see Santa at Utica Square. We didn't initially intend to see Santa. We met Gigi and Pepaw for lunch, and Rob had a gift to pick up in Utica Square afterwards. I told Avery that Santa was there and that she could see him if she wanted. She was very adamant that she DID want to see Santa, despite the long line and chilly winds. She insisted that she would sit on his lap, tell him what she wanted, and take a picture with him. Well, two out of three isn't bad (she didn't have enough nerve to tell him what she wanted).
