Weekend Fun

Avery and I always have a good time at Target.

She really wanted a wooden witch hat to paint.  I gave in.

We can't decide what Ben should be for Halloween. Avery decided she wants to be a cowgirl.  I picked up an Elmo costume and a fireman costume to give him the choice.  I don't think he gets it though.  He did want to touch and hug the soft Elmo costume but he didn't want to put on the head, SO, we'll see.  I'll hang on to both of them for a bit and return whichever one he doesn't wear.  Or both if we think of something else before then.

Ben loved the ducks at the park we went to yesterday.

Enjoying the Last of Summer

You never know what you're going to get in September in Oklahoma. Last weekend we had a pretty wide range in temps.  I love how September gives us a taste of cooler temps yet plenty of warm days too!

Friday was cold and rainy.  Saturday was beautiful and we were able to have the windows open.  There's just something about a cool breeze blowing through the windows that makes me really happy.  We made s'mores in the chiminea at dusk.  As it turns out, Ben was mostly interested in the marshmallows.  Avery was all about the whole package, and made at least two s'mores.

Sunday was warm and sunny and we hit a different running trail and park.  The kids seemed to enjoy the ride.  For some reason Ben decided to pretend he was napping.

After the park and lunch, Ben couldn't stay awake on the way home.

We spent the afternoon at Gigi and Pepaw's.

Definitely a nice, quiet weekend-one of the last of summer!

Student of the Month

We are super proud of Avery for earning Student of the Month-the very first month of school no less!

Rob and I were able to attend the pep rally and see her receive her certificate.  Her teacher said she is a great student who always listens and does the right thing.  We are really proud of her, although not surprised, because Avery is always a great listener (ahem, to other people) as well as a very kind and smart girl.

Labor Day Weekend

We had a great long weekend! I went out to dinner with some friends on Friday and Avery wanted to put makeup on too.

Saturday morning we had a birthday party at a gymnastics place.

The kids had so much fun.  Ben is a regular monkey.  They both jumped, climbed, and swung for an hour and a half.

After nap time we went to Gigi and Pepaw's to swim and watch the first OU game of the season.

On Sunday Rob played golf and uncle Stephen and I took a long walk/jog to the park.

SO  HOT.  It was nice to spend the rest of the day cooling off in the pool.

Ben is getting much more comfortable playing around in the water.  He has come a long way from the beginning of the summer when he didn't have any interest in getting in.  Avery has also improved dramatically this summer.  She can now dive to the bottom of the deep end (12 feet!) and swim nearly the entire length underwater.

On our bonus day off I took Avery to lunch and to see Maleficent.

We watched the trailer and several clips from the movie and she assured me she wasn't going to be scared.  Well, she was pretty terrified.  Hopefully she's not scarred for life.

Rob and Ben stayed home and smoked ribs for dinner.  Ben loved them.  So did Avery (ribs are a favorite of hers).
