Hurts and Hugs

Today Avery received not one but two Hurts and Hugs (i.e. your kid was damaged) reports.

#1 Avery ran into the rocking chair. No surprise there.  She cruises and crawls everywhere and is constantly bumping into things and falling down.  Here is the damage from that one:

#2 And I quote:

"While playing in the big kids room next door Avery was bit on the forehead.  Sorry." *frowny face*

They had two teachers out sick today (so were short a teacher in her room) so Avery went next door to the bigger kids room for a while.  This is understandable as she is one of the older babies in the infant room and will probably be moving soon anyway.  I know these things happen.  And I'm sure someday soon Avery will be on the giving end of a Hurts and Hugs report (I've been victim to her bites firsthand). You can barely tell where it happened and she's fine, of course.   I did have to make my own frowny face when I thought of her getting bitten by a bigger kid though.

Spaghetti Incident

I promise, people, I won't make a habit of food-on-the-face pictures!  But I can't pass up the first spaghetti incident.  She really liked it.  I could be wrong, but I think she's trying to tell us she is over baby food.  So I guess we'll be trying to switch gears over the next couple of weeks, moving away from purees.
For breakfast she either has yogurt, or 1/2 a banana along with some waffles.  I've been sending purees for lunch at daycare, but I'm looking for some finger food healthy lunch ideas.

Peas

Lately Avery is not wanting to be fed baby food.  When she sees the spoon coming towards her she starts shaking her head and waving her arms in front of her face-before she even takes a bite.  She wants to feed herself.  But she can't really use a spoon with any dexterity.  So I thought I'd give her a bowl of peas.  She figured out they were fun to throw and more went on the floor than in her mouth.

What the...?

Seriously?

Yes, that is a pea stuck to my chin.

11 Months

I am a mean Mama, who makes her wear things like this on her head

At 11 months she:

-Points

-Waves and says bye

-Says mama, dada and no-no (while shaking her head).

-Cruises

-Stands unassisted

-Hugs stuffed animals.  Her favorite is Monkey.  She tries to say monkey but only has the MMMM part down so far.  Sometimes she takes a shortcut and calls him Mama.

-Eats a variety of foods and is proficient in feeding herself finger foods.

-Is shy around new people or people she hasn't seen in a while but warms up after a while.

-Will hold her toy phones up to her ear when you say "hello"

-Loves to open and close things-drawers, cabinets, doors, etc.

-Is very busy!  Doesn't stop moving and is always getting into something new.

-Loves real keys, phones, remotes, etc.  Anything that isn't a toy basically!

-Protests when you take certain objects away from her.

-Likes "touch and feel" books but won't sit still for any other book yet.

-Has a new-found love of unrolling toilet paper.

-Weighs less than 19 pounds.

-Is happy and smiles constantly but it's harder to get her to really laugh.  I like to think she just has a discriminating sense of humor, not unlike myself:)  Yesterday, she found repeatedly dropping a Kleenex to the floor absolutely hysterical.  She was laughing so hard she was crying.  And of course I kept picking it up!

I must say that this month is bittersweet.  Of course we couldn't be happier to have a healthy, thriving little girl.  And we don't miss the sleepless newborn nights.  And she is more fun everyday.  But it is startling to see her growing so quickly.  Slow down, little peanut!
