10 Weeks

Your baby, now barely the size of a kumquat, weighs less than a quarter of an ounce. With bones and cartilage starting to form and vital organs beginning to function, baby is making major progress. Body length will almost double in the next three weeks, and arm joints are now working. (Soon, legs will too.)

9 Weeks

Your little embryo has now officially graduated to fetus-hood. Adding to the excitement, a Doppler ultrasound device might be able to pick up the beating heart. With basic physical structures in place and increasingly distinct facial features, baby is kind of starting to look like... well... a baby!

Damn You Hershey...

and your Pumpkin Spice Kisses found in the seasonal candy aisle at Target.
I like to keep candy on hand for the people at work but it's tricky because I try not to keep things at my desk that I like too much. So I bought these today at lunch and had to test one, for quality assurance purposes, upon returning to work. They're good. And I am not even that crazy about pumpkin flavored things (so I thought they'd be safe with me). Not so much. Next time I'll have to get the Candy Corn Kisses. Those I'm sure I wouldn't like.
Yesterday I went back to the doctor for the ultrasound I wasn't able to get the first time. My appointment was at 2:45 and I was working the rest of the afternoon from home. The doctor was running late (this is why I like morning appointments) but it turned out to be a good thing, because Rob was trying to make it after a funeral. I finally get called back and she asked if Rob was coming and I explained he was trying to make it but was still 10 minutes away. She wanted him to be there and said we could wait for him. The ultrasound machine representative was there guiding her on how to use the fancy new machine which was great. We were able to see and hear the heartbeat and see the baby. It was awesome! 160 beats per minute which she said was normal and, as Rob said, normal is good, right?

It was really nice to see and hear and I'm glad we decided not to wait.

First Appointment

Today I had my first appointment with my new ob doctor. The office is very convenient to our house which is good! The appointment was a little disappointing, however. My doctor is brand new to this practice and her ultrasound machine isn't coming in until this afternoon, so there was no ultrasound for us. We went over family history, questions, concerns, all of that stuff. I had an exam and blood drawn (again!) and said she would see us in four weeks. I just wasn't comfortable with waiting four more weeks for an ultrasound so after some thought we decided to call the office back and try to be seen again as soon as possible. After I went into work Rob called the doctor and she understood our concerns, and I am going back next Tuesday.
According to online calculations I am 8 weeks today!Your baby is growing like mad, putting on about a millimeter every day and continuing to straighten out in the trunk. Though you can't feel it yet, baby is moving those little arms, legs and (now only slightly) webbed fingers and toes like crazy.

Side note: doesn't it seem like a blueberry is bigger than a kidney bean?

7 Weeks

Your baby, having doubled in size since last week, is as big as a blueberry (about 1/2 inch in length).
