2 Months

From his appointment today

Weight: 10 lbs 12 oz (27th percentile)
Length: 23 inches (54th percentile)
Head: 15.25 inches (22nd percentile)

*I looked back and Avery was 11 lbs 11 oz at two months.  But she outweighed Ben by almost two pounds at birth so he is catching up pretty quickly.

Ben is in perfect health and doing great.  Here's what he's up to:
-He can hold his head up pretty well.
-He sleeps great at night, usually 12 hours, waking up once to eat.
-He doesn't mind tummy time.
-Not too crazy about the swing, although he will stay in it for a bit and is starting to watch the animals that dangle overhead.  Likes the bouncer (just like his sister).
-He's been pretty fussy lately.  Lots of crying, especially in the evenings.
-Likes bath time.
-Smiles and is starting to coo.

Poor guy got a couple of shots today. He was very unsuspecting, relaxing on the table unaware of what was ahead.

Love you sweet Ben! Can't wait to see you grow more over the next month.

Funny Girl

Yesterday evening we went for a walk and I picked up a home flyer for a house for sale (nosy) which Avery had quite a good time "reading."

While I was getting dinner ready she was having quite the heated phone (one-sided) conversation with her Mimi.

"OMG, Mimi.  O.M.G.  JEEZ.  UGH."

slams play phone down

Unfortunately I didn't have my phone handy to get the conversation on video and I only got the very tail end.

Seriously?  Three going on thirteen.  This scares me.

*I honestly do not know where she picked up OMG or such dramatic phone conversations.  Not from me. I talk on the phone pretty much never. And even if I do, well, I'm 32 not 12.

And yesterday, her teacher said she told her friend Coen "awww, stop being so silly.  Just give it up."

She is funny girl.  Her attitude is starting to scare me a bit, though.

The Last Few

Ben was 8 weeks on Friday.

Avery stayed home so Mimi could spend some time with her.  We started the day off with a walk.  She likes to take a turn pushing. Her turn lasts about five steps.

The weather has been much nicer lately (not over 100).  And yes, we put clothes on Avery.  She takes them off.
Talking to the horses

Ben fell asleep during tummy time.

Avery brought him a companion.

Ben is still a great night time sleeper.  He's been sleeping about 12 hours a night, waking up once to eat around 4 or 5.  Dare I say, he sleeps better at night than Avery did.  If I recall correctly, it was hard to get her to go back to sleep when she woke up.  Daytime is still a mixed bag.  Some days he's happy, some days he's super cranky.  His crankiness doesn't seem to stem from any sort of stomach issues or anything, so far as I can tell.  I think he just gets tired yet fights sleep.  I've been getting a decent nap out of him in the morning, but then maybe just cat naps throughout the day.  He seems to get a good amount of sleep overall (in a 24 hour period) but maybe he needs more (hence the crankiness).  He goes to the doctor on Wednesday for his 2 month checkup.  I can't wait to see what he weighs.  He's definitely filling out.

Joy

My Aunt Joy was wise, strong, funny, smart, and sensible.  She was the rock and the center of the Davis clan.  I have so many memories of her from throughout my childhood and beyond.

Rob recalled the first time that he met her.  Nine or so years ago, when my mom bought her house, her sisters were helping her do some remodeling.  And I don't mean painting and throw pillows, I mean taking out walls and the like.  Rob went by to help with something.  He came home and said "the oldest one? Joy? She was hanging off a ladder with a saw in one hand, demolishing a wall! Then she basically started talking crap to me, insinuating that I wasn't handy enough."

Needless to say, he was impressed...
It's very un-Davis-like to smile for photos

Your presence will be missed by many, Aunt Joy.

Weekend Wrap Up

Friday night we went to dinner for Memaw's birthday.
Happy birthday, Memaw! 85 years young.

Ben turned 7 weeks old on Friday.

Saturday we spent the morning hanging around the house. We got some much needed rain so Avery and I spent time inside doing our nails.  Avery hooked Ben up with some accessories.

Saturday afternoon I took Avery and Ben to visit my aunt Joy who is not doing well.  Ben seemed to enjoy meeting his aunts and, of course, seeing Mimi.

Rob's aunt and uncle are in town from Texas so we spent some time visiting with everyone at Grammer and Gramper's house yesterday.  Once Avery warmed up to "the purple shirt guy" (uncle Tom) she was full of energy and sass.

And this morning, four years to the day we found out we were going to have our first baby, Avery started her new pre-k3 class.  Where have the last four years gone?

Freezer Meals Follow-up

Back in June I made several freezer meals to use after Ben's arrival.  We made the last of them this week so I thought I'd follow up regarding how they turned out.

First of all, these came in extremely handy.  These lasted a while because we cooked or grilled other things on the weekends and usually even ate those leftovers through Monday.  We also had some very kind people bring us meals the first week or so we were home.  So that's why these freezer meals lasted 7 weeks.

Teriyaki Chicken: meh, this was ok.  Not bad but we probably wouldn't make this again.

Chicken Cacciatore: also just ok.

Santa Fe Chicken: this was good. We've made this before and we'll probably make it again.

Spaghetti Sauce: this was good. Rob really liked this because it was very thick and not runny. Apparently this is the downfall of spaghetti sauces, according to him.

Sausage and Peppers: wouldn't make this again.

Pulled Pork: I ended up making Melissa D'Arabian's recipe.  It was easy and pretty good! Not as good as pork made in the oven or on the smoker, in my opinion, but good.

My mom also made us three meals, two of which we have in the freezer and will eat this week and next.  After that, I guess we're back to making dinner every night! Boo.

Back to Work

And just like that my first week of working from home is almost over.  Ben and I have been hanging around the house this week.  As far as getting him on any type of nap schedule-ha!  He naps on his own terms. We bought a like-new swing on Craigslist yesterday.  Hopefully it will come in handy.  He's also been taking the pacifier a bit more.  He's been sleeping remarkably well at night, so I guess we have to deal with the daytime wakefulness/fussiness.

Ben's Birthday Slideshow

I finally got around to putting together a slide show from our time in the hospital.  Rob did a great job of taking pictures and there were a lot that I wanted to share.

6 Weeks

Ben was six weeks old on Friday.

He is getting so big. I'm sure he's well on his way to 9 pounds. The newborn sizes will be cleared out this week and he's moved up to size 1 diapers.

He can get pretty cranky when he's tired or hungry.  He doesn't like the swing and he will only rarely take a pacifier.  We are starting to get some smiles out of him which is pretty cute. He is still a good sleeper.  He will sleep from about 8 pm to either 4, 5, or 6 am.  If he wakes up at 4 or 5, he will go right back to sleep.  If he wakes up at 6, he will be up for about an hour or so, then go back to sleep for a bit.   Last night he slept from around 8 pm to 4 am, then back down to 8:30 am.  That was great!  I would love if he would do that every morning!

I will be working from home for the next six weeks starting today.  Hopefully we'll be able to get him on a nap schedule now that we'll consistently be home throughout most of the day.

Two Week Pictures

A co-worker of mine does photography on the side and he came over to take some newborn pics of Ben.  I think they turned out very nice!

Of course Ben was wide awake.  How do all these people get newborn pictures while the baby is sleepy and pliable?  I'm glad he cooperated anyway, except when we put on the lion hat.  He had had it at that point.
