Baby William's Shower

Saturday we hosted a baby shower for Lynn and Drew's upcoming addition.  It was so fun to get together with good friends and see all the love and excitement for baby Will.

Lynn plans to incorporate vintage airplanes in his room, so we ran with that with navy and yellow as the main colors.

Avery came along but thankfully my mom took Ben.  No way I could keep up with him and help host!
Getting ready

Stephen put the flowers together and as usual they looked great!

He made the planes from Dollar Tree foam planes and scrapbook paper.

Delicious cake from Ludgers-too bad they misspelled William!

I think Lynn got a lot of pictures with the guests on her camera.  These are just from my phone!

Father's Day Weekend 2013

But first, Friday.  Rodeo Day.
Avery and Coen

And Friday evening, a swim birthday party for a classmate.

Rob spent Friday and Saturday night camping with friends.

Saturday the kids and I hung around the house and shopped a little bit in the afternoon.  The kids love being at home-well, Avery loves being at home.  I think Ben actually gets bored at home.  Avery never gets bored.  She could spend an entire day playing at home and never say she's bored or run out of things to do.  I realized on Sunday that we actually didn't turn the tv on all weekend.  If she would have asked to watch something I would have let her-she just never asked.

But I digress.

I bought some sponge rollers when we were out.  I'd been wanting to try them on her hair to see how it curled.  She only had them in for about 2 or 3 hours and it curled pretty well.  It would be even better if her hair was wet or she slept in them.

Ben started walking behind his push toys this weekend.

Rob got home Sunday morning.  We had a table of treats set up for him.
He is excellent at going to sleep.
He also loves shrimp and tacos but not sure if they're his favorite.
She might be projecting there.

We had a nice lunch with the family and then went swimming.

Avery practiced her swimming.  She's pretty good at swimming underwater.  We just need to work on swimming above water.

Getting Ben to sit still, much less hold something and look at the camera...HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
No.  Not happening.

Maybe next year, when he can be bribed with a Capri Sun and a piece of gum.
I think Rob had a nice and (relatively) relaxing day.  These kids are really, really lucky they get to call him Dad.

My Little Mini-Me

Small hands reach into my makeup drawer while I'm getting ready.  She wants to know what this is for and what that is for.  I see her watch my every move, taking mental notes.  She wants to try it out, not so much gently sweeping as abrasively rubbing her face with the big brushes.

She runs out and announces "I put makeup on so my face looks beautiful!"

Rob tells her that her face is beautiful anyway.

"No, it's not!"

Oy.  We have started on the road to instilling a sense of confidence and self-esteem in our tiny daughter.  Reinforcing that she is beautiful, but more importantly that she is smart and kind.

It seems like since her birthday she has taken a much bigger interest in clothes and shoes.  She wants to wear a dress every day.  She wants to pick out her outfit, her bow, tells me how she wants her hair fixed, etc.

I love seeing her personality develop.  I enjoy watching her experiment with style and dress up.  I hope she comes to understand how valuable she is, which has nothing to do with how she looks.

Our Week

On Monday I made an appointment for Ben.  I suspected he had an ear infection, and he did.  We probably should have taken him in sooner.  He's been off for a week or two.  On Monday I was actually relieved to hear he had a double ear infection so we could treat it, of course, but also relieved that his crankiness was attributed to that and not  his actual personality. Ha!  We've been battling BAD (bleeding) diaper rash all week.  It seemed to be a little better this morning.  Hopefully it improves throughout the day.

After just two doses of antibiotics he was feeling much better on Tuesday.  We went to get some ice cream after dinner.

We spent a little time airing his bottom out outside.  Arthur wanted to get at Ben to lick him all over.  I tried to fend him and his muddy paws off.

Last night Ben got his first taste of spaghetti.  I think he liked it.
