Camping

We took a quick camping trip last Thursday.  We didn't take Ben along with us this time, but we're getting a bigger tent so we can take him next time.

Avery had a blast finding dead fish, making s'mores, and chasing fireflies. This is the face she made when I asked her if Ben should have come with us.  Apparently, "Ben doesn't know how to camp."

Avery had a great time.  She is a great little camper.

Weekend

Lots of outdoor fun this past weekend!  We've had some unseasonably nice weather (i.e. it didn't feel as if we were on the surface of the sun).

My sweet boy

A&B have really been playing good together lately.

Although sometimes it means stuff like this happens.

Some of our friends had a party Saturday.  They arranged for an ice cream truck to come, which, big hit.

More pool fun on Sunday.

And on Monday morning, none of us wanted to get up.

Sugar Bug

Ugh!  I had hoped Avery would be much, much older when she got her first cavity.  Rob took her for a checkup/cleaning on Tuesday and they discovered a small spot on one of her back teeth.  She wasn't too keen on getting in the chair in the fist place, so they gave her something to calm her down in addition to the gas ("princess air," they told her).

Apparently it was a very small spot that they drilled and then covered with sealant (no filling).

Poor thing looks so scared.  Good thing she had her bear, Boomer Sooner.  I think she was watching a movie, too.

Conversation later that day:

Me: So you had a cavity?

Avery: Yeah. Because YOU told me I didn't have to brush my teeth anymore.

Me: What? No I didn't.

Avery: Yeah you did.  You just don't remember.

Me: No.  I didn't.

Avery: It's ok.  I'm not mad at you.

Typically, she brushes on her own then we follow up with a "turn" after she is done. So we all need to do a better job of brushing her teeth.  Hopefully no more cavities for a long time.

Big Changes

I haven't had much time to catalog all of our happenings on here lately! Hopefully very soon things are going to significantly slow down and I'll have more time to devote to this space.  We have had some big changes lately, the biggest one being that the kids are no longer attending daycare/preschool.  Mimi has retired and is taking care of the kids!

Honestly, it was slightly bittersweet to leave Cross Timbers, their home-away-from-home for 5 years.

My attempt at a picture on their last day.

Avery and Ben both started attending when they were 3 months old.  There were so many people that took care of them, cared for them, and taught them their ABCs and 123s along with many other things.  There were things we weren't so crazy about (and a few people we weren't so crazy about), but overall it was a good experience and a very formative one, especially for Avery.  She made so many friends that she'll miss dearly.  But next month she'll be starting kindergarten (!) and beginning a whole new chapter where I know she'll continue to thrive.

The kids have absolutely loved Mimi's summer camp these past few weeks!  Every day they go to the park, the splash pad, the zoo, the mall, the library, or somewhere!

I know the kids are enjoying this time and I think Mimi is too.

Fourth of July

Food, family, fireworks, fun.  That pretty much sums up our weekend.

Highlights: Avery doing fireworks (she really enjoyed them this year), the kids making s'mores at our friends' house, hours in Gigi and Pepaw's pool, and Ben finally getting comfortable getting in the water!  He figured out throwing water on people is pretty fun.

Such a fun weekend!
